This is now becoming an annual event as we try to recharge Pam's batteries in the middle of our cold, grey
Michigan winters. As with our previous trips, we stayed in the region south of Cancun along the Caribbean coast known
as the Riviera Maya. Our resort, the Occidental Grand Xcaret, had a number of Mayan ruins respectfully incorporated
into the grounds. It also adjoined a large eco-theme park which we enjoyed visiting one day.

In addition to the beach area, the resort has a dramatic stretch of rocky coast. |

There was an abundance of beautifully colored butterflies on the resort property. |

Friendly and talkative parrots were positioned at various points throughout the resort. |

Of course, no trip to Mexico is complete without the ubiquitous iguanas. |

Pam painted a pottery bowl at this beachfront kiosk within the resort. |

The charming proprietor glazed and fired the bowl overnight, and it was ready for Pam to bring home. |

The Mayan ruins at the resort were far more substantial than we were expecting. |

Sunrises at the resort were spectacular. |

A Mayan ritual is re-enacted for us at the Xcaret Eco-Theme Park. |

The Mayan performers also demonstrated the music and dance of their ancient culture. |

Animals throughout the park ranged from the common to the exotic. |

The aquarium facilities were particularly impressive. |
