Hip Pocket plays a unique combination of R&B, funk, and jazz that
simply electrifies a room. The band boasts a killer horn section, two of the most soulful vocalists in town, and a tight,
driving rhythm section that's a joy to work with.
And what great material for a drummer! Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Chicago, Chaka Khan,
Steely Dan, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder -- just one tight groove after another with plenty of horn licks to
accent. It's no wonder the band's list of former drummers reads like a who's-who of the best players around, from Derico
Watson (now touring with Victor Wooten) to Jon Wert ("chops-o-plenty"). I won't even try to fill their shoes -- I'm
just honored to follow in their footsteps.
Many Hip Pocket gigs are private engagements but the band also loves to play the local club scene, so check
my gig schedule page for upcoming shows. You can also visit the band's own website.
You may also want to check out Side Pocket, a jazz fusion quartet made up of several members of Hip Pocket. It's a very different band playing
very different material but injected with the same fire and musical intensity.
